Intended for warfare, the virus would infect its host via airborne pathogens and begin mutating, causing the body's cells to multiply to create tumours until death. The virus rapidly mutated and spread uncontrollably, decimating the global population. Eventually, humans began to adapt to the virus but now struggle against a new hostile mutated environment and other dangers.
Mutants
Mutated by an advanced strain of the R.A.I.D. virus, the infected beings transform into physically powerful but mentally deteriorated beings. Mutant bodies are warped with tumour-like growths, black spikes, hardened carapaces, or additional appendages.
A scavenging run goes wrong when a gang of marauding raiders capture you. But a strange and intimidating figure comes to your rescue in a gory spectacle and gifts you a blood-stained rifle. It's a rare act of kindness in this desolate world, one that has you curious about your brutal saviour.
